معرفی
Dr. Ian Cooper is a Senior Lecturer in Microbiology at the University of Brighton's School of Applied Sciences, where he serves as Course Leader for the MRes Biological Sciences program. He teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Ecology, Biological Sciences, and Biomedical Science, integrating his research on microbial mechanisms into pedagogy.
Education:
• PhD in Microbiology (2004): Thesis on freshwater biofilms as reservoirs of E. coli O157
• BSc (Hons) awarded in 2000
Research Focus: His work bridges environmental and clinical microbiology, examining:
- Bacterial adhesion mechanisms on biomedical/environmental surfaces
- Quorum sensing in device-associated infections
- Novel antibiotics and bacteriophage therapies
- Pathogen persistence in ecosystems
- Zoonotic transmission dynamics
Publication Trends: Recent work (2021-2024) emphasizes biofilm mitigation, marine corrosion microbiology, antimicrobial alternatives, and ecological disease vectors, demonstrating cross-disciplinary approaches to pathogen control.
Leadership & Service:
- External Examiner for University of Lincoln (2022) and University of Bedfordshire (2019-2023)
- Editorial board member for Hindawi journals
- Supervisor for Masters/PhD candidates in microbiology and antimicrobial research
Affiliations: Member of the Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Devices research group and Biomaterials/Drug Delivery Research Enterprise Group.
