Marjan Houshmand serves as Associate Professor of Management in the Management and Industrial Relations department at Shidler College of Business, University of Hawaii at Manoa, holding the Family Business Center of Hawai'i Distinguished Professorship.
Her academic credentials include a PhD from the University of British Columbia, an MBA from Simon Fraser University, and a BASc from Simon Fraser University.
Her research spans Family Business and Entrepreneurship, Organizational Theory and Behavior, Life Course Research, and Quantitative Methodology with Dynamic Models. She investigates how adolescent work in family businesses impacts child-parent relationships, psychological well-being, and long-term professional outcomes, while examining work-family dynamics through quantitative frameworks and longitudinal analysis.
Recent publications reveal a consistent focus on stakeholder management during crises, intergenerational transitions in family firms, and cultural values in business operations, demonstrating interdisciplinary contributions to family business sustainability and organizational behavior.
She has received the Family Business Center of Hawai'i Distinguished Professorship. Her work appears in Family Business Review, Sage Business Cases, and Research in the Sociology of Work.
Dr. Houshmand actively participates in the Family Business Center of Hawai'i, advising students and developing research on family enterprise systems, with implications for succession planning and cross-cultural business practices.
