Marja Laasonen is Professor and Head of Logopedics at the University of Eastern Finland's School of Humanities, with additional roles as Adjunct Professor at the University of Helsinki and Research Director at Helsinki University Hospital. She holds expertise in psychology, clinical neuropsychology, and education. Her research focuses on developmental and learning difficulties including dyslexia, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, and developmental language disorder, which she investigates through multidisciplinary approaches spanning genetics, brain imaging, multilingualism, and machine learning.
Her current longitudinal project examines developmental language disorder using advanced methodologies such as international cohort comparisons and registry-based research. In education development, Laasonen promotes blended learning, digital practices, and AI applications, including AI-driven science communication initiatives to increase public accessibility of scientific knowledge.
