Mariusz Koper

Dr. Mariusz Koper is an assistant professor at the Department of Polish Language, Institute of Linguistics, Faculty of Humanities, John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (KUL). Born on July 2, 1974, in Tomaszów Lubelski, he has been an active academic since receiving his doctorate in 2006 and habilitation in 2020, both from KUL. His academic journey includes studies at the Teacher Training College Complex in Zamość and the Catholic University of Lublin.

Dr. Koper's research interests center on onomastic analyses, Polish-Ukrainian linguistic-ethnic and historical-settlement relations, the history of the Polish-Ukrainian borderland, and the language of tombstone inscriptions in borderland cemeteries. He also specializes in sports linguistics, particularly radio and television sports commentary, phonetics, voice emission, and regional research of Roztocze and the Belsk Plain. His work bridges academic research with regional cultural preservation, reflecting his deep connection to the Lubycza Królewska region.

His scholarly output demonstrates a consistent focus on borderland linguistics, with particular attention to toponymy and anthroponymy in southeastern Poland. The publications reveal an evolving trajectory from historical linguistic studies toward contemporary sociolinguistic analyses, including sports language and popularization of linguistic knowledge.
