Marius Kaffai is a Researcher at the University of Stuttgart, affiliated with the Department of Computational Social Science under the Institute of Social Sciences. His work focuses on simulating social phenomena through agent-based modeling, particularly the interplay between social diffusion processes (e.g., virus spread, norm propagation) and societal structures, with an emphasis on integrating empirical data into models.
- Education
- M.A. in Soziologie und Sozialforschung (2017–2019), Philipps-Universität Marburg
- B.A. in Sozialwissenschaften (2012–2017), Philipps-Universität Marburg
His research interests include agent-based modeling, social network analysis, and data-driven simulations. He co-develops the Python package Pop2net for creating complex network structures and integrating empirical data into models. Since 2022, he has worked on the SoepSim project, funded by the SimTech Cluster of Excellence, aiming to improve agent-based modeling using large-scale survey data.
Marius has published work on pandemic simulations, including a 2021 article analyzing non-pharmaceutical interventions during the COVID-19 crisis. He has taught courses on agent-based modeling, R programming, and multivariate data analysis for social scientists. His professional roles include academic staff positions at the University of Stuttgart and prior assistant roles at Philipps-Universität Marburg.
