Marita Gronnvoll

Marita Gronnvoll is a Professor and Assistant Chair at the School of Communication and Journalism, Eastern Illinois University. She holds a PhD in Speech Communication from the University of Georgia (2008), an MA (2003), and a BA (2000) in the same field from the University of Washington.

Her research critically examines media representations of socio-political issues, with emphases on:

• Gender and feminist analyses of terrorism narratives
• Rhetorical constructions of torture and conflict in news/entertainment media
• Cultural critiques of the 'war on terrorism' discourse
• Popular culture as a site of ideological negotiation

Recent publications explore themes like military apologies and 9/11 cultural representations, employing interdisciplinary lenses from communication theory, media studies, and critical rhetoric.
