Marit Ursin is a Professor at the Department of Education and Lifelong Learning, Faculty of Social and Educational Sciences at NTNU. She holds a MA in Social Anthropology (NTNU) and a PhD in Sociology (NORD University), both focusing on marginalized youth in Brazil. Her postdoctoral research examined the impact of drug trade on children in Brazil.
Her academic interests include marginalized children and youth, children’s rights, youth mobility, and Latin American studies. She leads the WorldViews research group exploring children’s encounters with societal values. She teaches courses on qualitative methods in childhood studies and children’s rights across academic levels.
Recent publications emphasize decolonial approaches to children’s rights, Nordic childhood discourses, and participatory climate activism. Key works include analyses of Palestinian child representation, migrant youth pathways in Portugal, and systemic exclusion of street children. She edits the Nordic journal BARN and actively participates in international conferences on migration, climate justice, and child welfare systems.
Her research projects include ViYouth (youth narrative visualization), Children’s Election (Save the Children Norway), and EU-funded studies on family welfare. She frequently lectures on decolonizing methodologies, child rights frameworks, and Brazilian urban sociology.
