Borgunn Ytterhus

Borgunn Ytterhus is a Professor at the Department of Public Health and Nursing, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), with expertise in Health Science and Sociology. She holds a PhD in Sociology (2000) and a Master’s in Sociology (1995), complemented by nursing qualifications in elderly care (1990) and orthopaedics/children’s wards (1983). Her academic career spans multidisciplinary research in social inclusion, disability studies, refugee health services, and qualitative methodologies.

Her research focuses on marginalized groups, including disabled children, children with addicted parents, and refugee populations. She leads the project Silent Space Speech (2019–2023), addressing health promotion for young refugees, and co-leads the NTNU-based research group on children’s health and welfare.

Recent publications highlight her work in inclusive education, qualitative research ethics, and refugee healthcare access. She serves on the editorial board of the Scandinavian Journal of Disability Research and reviews for journals like Disability & Rehabilitation and Nordic Early Childhood Education Research Journal.

At NTNU, she instructs Children and Youth: A Fundament for Public Health (FH3011) and Qualitative Research Methods in Medicine & Health Science (MH3004). She collaborates internationally through the Global Health and Disability project with Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), India, funded by Norwegian Centre for International Cooperation in Education (SIU).
