Dr. Marit Bentvelzen is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Science, Utrecht University, specializing in Human-Centered Computing. She holds a PhD in this field (2024) with her thesis titled Reflection by Interaction: How Technology can Support Users in Reflecting on Personal Data.
Research Interests focus on designing technologies that support self-reflection, personal data interpretation, and human-computer interaction. Her work spans data visualization, virtual reality, and fitness tracking systems, emphasizing user-centered design and technology-mediated reflection.
Publications highlight her contributions to reflective metrics in fitness trackers, VR-based reflection tools, and data physicalization. She explores how qualitative data representation (e.g., weather metaphors for stress) and smart toys can enhance intergenerational connectedness and self-compassion.
Teaching includes courses on Human-Centered Computing at Utrecht University, bridging technology design and user experience principles.
