Lucas Silva is an Assistant Professor in the Computer Science Department at the University of Iowa, where he conducts research at the intersection of Human-Computer Interaction and health informatics. His work focuses on how individuals and families can leverage personal data across multiple devices to manage health and wellbeing, with a particular emphasis on supporting neurodivergent individuals through technology-mediated emotional co-regulation.
His research interests lie primarily in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), health and wellbeing technologies, and personal data systems. He explores how interactive technologies can be designed to support self-understanding, collaborative care, and emotional regulation within family contexts. His work integrates insights from informatics, psychology, and design to create inclusive and accessible solutions.
Lucas Silva completed his PhD in Informatics at the University of California, Irvine. He holds a M.Sc. and B.S. in Computer Science from Universidade Federal do Pará, Brazil. He is actively recruiting graduate and undergraduate students interested in HCI for health, especially those with interdisciplinary backgrounds in computer science, informatics, design, psychology, or health sciences. While no publications are listed in the current text, his research trajectory emphasizes user-centered design, accessibility, and family-based digital health interventions.
He advises students from diverse academic backgrounds and encourages applications to the CS or Informatics PhD programs at the University of Iowa. Prospective researchers are invited to contact him with their CV, transcript, and a statement of interest. Outside of academia, he is passionate about fantasy and science fiction literature and media.
