Marion Winrow Hart

Marion Winrow Hart serves as Lecturer and Director of Spanish Language Debate in the Departments of Communication Studies and World Languages and Cultures at California Polytechnic State University. A seventh-generation Californio native of San Luis Obispo County, Hart's work bridges academic scholarship with cultural advocacy through debate pedagogy.

Her research encompasses:

• Spanish debate and advocacy methodologies
• Construction of Spanish national identity
• 19th-20th century Spanish literature
• Flamenco and Spanish musical traditions
• Historical Spanish influence in California

Hart is developing pedagogical frameworks to establish Spanish-debate academic communities in the United States.

Her scholarly contributions include publications on poet Fernando Quiñones and translations of historical California mission documents. As faculty advisor, she supports the Spanish Club, Project Sunshine, and Phi Sigma Iota Honor Society. Her community engagement extends debate pedagogy beyond the classroom to promote linguistic and cultural exchange.
