Neunkirchner's research focuses on the intersection of social inclusion, domestic and gender-based violence, and penitentiary systems. Her work examines how technological changes impact security systems and correctional facilities, particularly through her dissertation research on organizational change in the penitentiary system. She has developed significant expertise in analyzing how pandemics like COVID-19 exacerbate domestic violence situations, contributing to both academic literature and practical policy recommendations.
Her publication record demonstrates consistent output in domestic violence research, with a recent emphasis on pandemic impacts, technological interventions in security systems, and legal frameworks. The articles show a clear progression from practical applications (police response protocols) toward broader theoretical considerations of penitentiary organization and gender-based violence as a public issue.
Neunkirchner actively engages with the public through media appearances, having participated in numerous interviews with ORF 2 and other media outlets to discuss domestic violence, femicide, and pandemic-related violence trends. Her practical experience as a social worker in correctional facilities from 2015-2023 informs her academic work, creating a valuable bridge between theory and practice.
She currently works on the MAIJA (Mobile Artificial Intelligence Justice Assistant) project at VICESSE Research GmbH and has contributed to the WimoS and IMPRODOVA projects focused on domestic violence intervention strategies.
