His academic journey includes positions as a Research Associate at the Competence Center for Gerontology and Health Research at the KL Private University (2019-2020) and at the Institute of Sociology, University of Vienna (2018-2019).
Dr. Richter's research primarily centers on inequality, ageing, and poverty, with specific focus on cumulative disadvantages over the life course and poverty extending into old age. His work examines how social, economic, and health factors intersect to create and perpetuate disadvantage among elderly populations. He has conducted extensive research on the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on vulnerable elderly populations, particularly regarding social isolation, health outcomes, and economic hardship.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong interdisciplinary approach bridging sociology, gerontology, public health, and social policy. A significant portion of his work examines how financial constraints affect ecological behavior among elderly populations, the measurement of old-age poverty, and interventions to prevent social isolation. His research often employs both quantitative and qualitative methodologies to understand the complex life situations of elderly people facing economic hardship.
