Prof. Dr. Marion G. Müller is a Professor of Media Studies at the University of Trier, Department II. She specializes in visual communication, political communication, and crisis communication. Her research focuses on the impact of war imagery, political rituals, and digital media analysis. Müller leads the DFG-funded project 'Visual Communication in Times of War' (€452,739), investigating the psychological effects of war-related images on German audiences. She has held academic positions at Jacobs University Bremen and has collaborated with institutions like the Humboldt University Berlin and the University of Passau.
Her work spans interdisciplinary studies, including a 2023 study on empathic reactions to Ukrainian war photographs and a 2024 analysis of historical iconographic punishment practices. Müller has advised students such as Dr. Katharina Christ (Summa Cum Laude, 2023) and has published extensively on visual communication in conflict zones, political iconography, and media literacy. She regularly participates in international conferences, including ICA and DGPuK events, and contributes to public discourse via media interviews and podcasts.
