Mario Thomas Gaboury is a tenured Professor of Criminal Justice and currently serves as Vice President for Government Affairs and Global Engagement at the University of New Haven, a position he assumed in June 2024. Previously, he was Dean of the Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences and served as Interim Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs from June 2019 through December 2021. With over four decades of professional, government, and academic experience including service as Deputy Director of the Office for Victims of Crime at the U.S. Department of Justice, Dr. Gaboury oversees the University's Office of Economic Development and Community Engagement as part of his current role.

Dr. Gaboury's research focuses on Victimology, victims' rights, global human trafficking, victim impact education, restorative justice, and community policing. His scholarly work has appeared in numerous journals including Victims and Offenders, Forensic Nursing, Comprehensive Psychiatry, and International Perspectives on Victimology. He has made significant contributions to understanding victim-offender dynamics and developing effective victim impact education programs within correctional settings, with particular emphasis on cognitive and behavioral outcomes.
Analysis of Dr. Gaboury's publication history reveals a consistent interdisciplinary approach connecting criminal justice with psychology, forensic science, and human rights frameworks. His work spans forensic applications in human trafficking cases, mental health impacts on victims in disaster contexts, and innovative correctional programming that incorporates victim perspectives. His administrative expertise includes overseeing multiple academic programs and directing centers focused on Forensic Science, Cyber Crime, Trafficking in Persons, and Social Justice. He has been instrumental in securing federal funding for police training initiatives and advancing the University's global engagement, including plans for a branch campus in Saudi Arabia.
Dr. Gaboury directs various programs in Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, Forensic Technology, Investigations, National Security, International Affairs, Public Administration, Homeland Security, Emergency Management, Fire Science, and Fire Protection Engineering. He also oversees centers focused on Forensic Science, Analytics, Cyber Crime, Trafficking in Persons, International Justice and Security, Wildlife Forensics, Youth Justice, and Social Justice.
