Mario Richard is a Professor in the Department of Education at TÉLUQ University, where he has been a faculty member since 2009 and received tenure in 2015. Concurrently, he serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning Studies at the Faculty of Education, Université Laval. His academic career spans over a decade with significant contributions to educational research and program development.
His educational qualifications are as follows:
- Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Laval University
- M.Ed. in Educational Psychology from the University of Ottawa
- Certificate in College Teaching from Université Laval
- Bachelor's degree in History from Université Laval
Professor Richard's primary research interests include distance learning, teacher professional development, and the effectiveness of teaching and schools. He has pioneered a hybrid training approach that integrates research on teaching effectiveness to support school professionals. His work emphasizes explicit teaching strategies and has resulted in the creation of innovative graduate programs designed for educators in Quebec's school system.
He has secured research funding, notably from the Fonds de recherche du Québec sur la société et la culture (FRQSC), for a project on teachers' professional learning during his 2016-2017 sabbatical. Additionally, he served as Director of the Department of Education for three years and founded two graduate programs: the Short Graduate Program in Teaching and School Effectiveness and the DESS in Preschool and Primary Education.
