Mario R. Ortiz is the Dean and Professor of Nursing at Binghamton University's Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences, holding the Decker Endowed Chair in Community Health Nursing. He is also the Executive Director of the Kresge Center for Nursing Research and Community Health Centers of Practice. With a PhD from Loyola University and degrees from Valparaiso University, his expertise spans nursing leadership, health policy, and community health.
His research focuses on qualitative methodologies, nursing theory, and community health, with clinical interests in HIV/AIDS and family nursing. He serves on editorial boards for Nursing Science Quarterly and journals like the Journal of Rural Nursing and Health Care, emphasizing policy development informed by nursing knowledge. His leadership roles include chairing New York's Health Equity Council and membership in Sigma Theta Tau International, the National Academies of Practice (FNAP), and the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN).
Ortiz has secured significant grants and endowments to support nurse-led primary care clinics and community initiatives.
