Pamela Stewart Fahs

Pamela Stewart Fahs is a Professor and holds the Dr. G. Clifford and Florence B. Decker Endowed Chair in Rural Nursing at Binghamton University's Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences. She also serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Online Journal of Rural Nursing and Health Care. With over three decades of nursing experience, her career spans clinical practice in Appalachian regional hospitals, military service (Kentucky National Guard and Army Nurse Corps Reserves, 2nd lieutenant to captain), and academic leadership roles.

Education:

• MS with Family Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialist Certifications, Binghamton University
• BSN, University of Kentucky
• AAS in Nursing, Eastern Kentucky University

Her research focuses on cardiovascular disease prevention in rural populations, leveraging community-based participatory approaches. Key interests include rural nursing theory, heart attack/stroke awareness in women, and health disparities. She has secured NIH grants and published in top-tier journals like Nursing Research and Journal of Rural Health.

Major recognitions include the 2016 Anna Mae Erickson Nurse Leadership Award and 2022 induction into the American Academy of Nursing as a Fellow.

Grants & Teaching: Secured funding from NIH and nonprofit organizations. Teaches rural healthcare policy, nursing theory, and health disparities. Advises students in cardiovascular research and rural nursing practice.

Labs/Initiatives: Leads projects on rural women's heart health, community health partnerships, and rural nursing workforce development through the Decker College's research infrastructure.
