Mario Marchese is a full Professor at the University of Genoa, serving as Vice-Rector (Prorettore) while maintaining active teaching and research roles. He is affiliated with the Department of Naval, Electrical, Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering (DITEN) where he holds the position of Professor in the Telecommunications sector (IINF-03/A). As a member of the Board of Directors of the Italian Center of Excellence on Logistics, Transport and Infrastructure (CIELI), he contributes to national strategic initiatives.
His research interests span satellite communications, cybersecurity, and non-terrestrial networks with particular focus on practical applications. His work bridges telecommunications engineering with critical infrastructure security, especially in smart grids and vehicular communications. Recent publications demonstrate expertise in LEO satellite constellations, V2X security, and AI-driven anomaly detection for power systems.
Analysis of his recent publications (2024-2025) reveals a strong focus on cybersecurity challenges in emerging communication paradigms, particularly at the intersection of satellite networks, automotive systems, and smart grid technologies. His work often combines theoretical modeling with practical testbed implementations, such as the CyberVehiCare platform for V2X security testing.
As an educator, Professor Marchese teaches across multiple master's programs including Engineering for Natural Risk Management, Internet and Multimedia Engineering, and Electrical Engineering for Energy Transition, with courses on Communication Networks for Emergency and Monitoring, Quality of Service over Heterogeneous Networks, and Telecommunications.
