Mario Leocadio-Miguel is an Assistant Professor in Sleep Science at Northumbria University's Psychology Department. He holds a BSc in Physiotherapy from Universidade Paulista (2002), MSc and PhD in Human Physiology from Universidade de São Paulo (2006 and 2012 respectively). Previously, he served as a Professor at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte from 2014 to 2023.
His research focuses on Neurobiology of Sleep, Circadian Rhythms, Mental Health, and applications of Machine Learning. Key areas include sleep architecture heritability, chronotype distribution in clinical populations, and sleep-disorder management guidelines. He has contributed to international standards for polysomnography reporting and explored the neurophysiological effects of physical exercise.
Recent work spans topics like infant sleep regularity (2025), energy expenditure modeling (2025), and depression-prediction algorithms (2023). His studies often bridge basic science and clinical practice, addressing societal challenges like pandemic mental health impacts and cardiometabolic risk factors in chronotype misalignment.
