Mario Bauer

Mario Bauer is a Research Professor (PD Dr.) and Senior Scientist at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ, Department of Environmental Immunology in Leipzig, Germany. Since 2005, he has been leading research initiatives focused on environmental toxicology and immunology, with a habilitation from Leipzig University Faculty of Medicine in 2016.

Education:

Research Interests:

Dr. Bauer's research spans environmental epigenetics and aryl hydrocarbon receptor signaling, with a strong emphasis on how environmental chemicals affect immune responses and developmental processes. His work integrates molecular toxicology, immunology, and epigenetics to understand the health impacts of endocrine disruptors and other environmental pollutants.

Scientific Contributions:

With over 200 peer-reviewed publications since 2000, Dr. Bauer's work has significantly advanced understanding of:

• Effects of bisphenol A and benzophenone-3 on immune cell differentiation and reproductive health
• Impact of chemical mixtures on human immune responses
• Epigenetic mechanisms underlying environmental toxicant effects
• Developmental toxicity of endocrine disruptors in animal models

Current Role:

As Platform Coordinator for Gene analysis and In vivo and in vitro imaging at UFZ, Dr. Bauer leads collaborative projects investigating the immune system's response to environmental challenges, with implications for public health and regulatory policy.
