Dr Marine Ganofsky is a Lecturer in French at the University of St Andrews' School of Modern Languages. She holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge and has previously taught at the University of Oxford and Kent. Her research focuses on eighteenth-century French literature, particularly libertine fiction and Enlightenment studies, challenging traditional narratives about disenchantment through analyses of magical metaphors and nocturnal aesthetics.
Education: PhD in French Literature (University of Cambridge, 2012). Notable positions include Visiting Fellow at Yale University (2020) and officer roles in the British Society for Eighteenth Century Studies (2015-2017). She has authored books such as *Night in Eighteenth-Century French Libertine Fiction* (2018, Gapper Prize shortlist) and edited *Petits soupers libertins* (2016).
Research interests explore enchantment in Enlightenment-era literature, nocturnal symbolism, and the interplay between libertinage and philosophy. Current projects include a monograph on libertine enchantments and co-supervision of a cotutelle PhD student researching French pornographic fiction.
Awards include recognition for her groundbreaking work on night studies. Public engagement includes creating the 'A Semester with Casanova' course and appearing in the Sky Arts documentary *Casanova Undressed* (2016).
