Marina Sitrin

Marina Sitrin is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Binghamton University, serving as Chair of the Latin American and Caribbean Area Studies program and Graduate Director. She holds a PhD in Global Sociology from SUNY Stony Brook and a JD in International Women’s Human Rights from CUNY Law School. Her work integrates ethnographic research, oral history, and sociological narrative to study social movements globally.

Research focuses on abolitionist frameworks, prefigurative politics, horizontal organizing (horizontalidad), and participatory democracy. Key projects include studies on Argentina’s 2001 uprising, global mutual aid networks during the pandemic, and alternative justice systems in Mexico, Rojava, and the U.S. She co-leads the Global Tapestry of Alternatives and facilitates the Abolitionist Feminist Insurgent Ethnography Lab.

Publications include Everyday Revolutions (2012), They Can't Represent Us! (2014), and Pandemic Solidarity (2020). Current projects examine community-based justice systems and global commons initiatives. Methodologically, her work emphasizes oral histories and 'history from below,' prioritizing marginalized voices in social change.
