Marina Petri is a Professor of Physics at the University of York, affiliated with the School of Physics, Engineering and Technology and the Department of Physics. She previously held roles including Assistant Professor at Darmstadt University of Technology (2012–2016), Royal Society University Research Fellow, and Senior Research Fellow. Her research focuses on experimental nuclear physics, particularly the structure of exotic nuclei and the nature of the nuclear force.
Marina’s work involves cutting-edge experiments at international accelerator laboratories and developing advanced detectors, tools, and techniques. Her experimental program addresses fundamental questions such as the role of three-body forces and nucleon-nucleon correlations in atomic nuclei. The Petri Lab, part of her research group, is funded by the Royal Society and the UKRI Science and Technology Facilities Council. She actively collaborates in international projects and has delivered invited talks on nuclear physics topics since 2018.
Her recent publications (2025) highlight trends in nuclear fission mechanisms, precision measurements of nuclear cross sections, and theoretical modeling of single-particle strength in nuclei. She has secured major grants, including the Nuclear Physics Consolidated Grant (2024–2027) and the gRIBF-UK project, and is a co-investigator on several funded research initiatives.
Marina is currently accepting PhD students for research in nuclear science through the Petri Lab and offers supervision in experimental and theoretical nuclear physics. Her lab emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation in detector technologies.
