Marilyn Ward is a Professor of Education and Director of the Center for Children’s Literature at Carthage College. She joined the faculty in 1990 and teaches courses in Children’s Literature, Young Adult Literature, Creative Arts, Social Studies Methods, and Poetry Theatre. Her work focuses on international and multicultural literature, disability representation in fiction, and social studies trade books.
Prof. Ward holds a B.A. in Theatre, Social Studies, and Education from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, an M.A. in Children’s Theatre from Northwestern University, and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction (Children’s Literature and Gifted/Talented Education) from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
She maintains OmniLibros.com, an annotated bibliography of international children’s and young adult literature. Her research emphasizes global literary perspectives and educational practices, with publications spanning books and academic articles.
Prof. Ward’s professional activities include international travel to engage with schools, libraries, and cultural institutions. She resides near Lake Michigan, surrounded by her extensive book collection.
