Marilyn Swan

Marilyn Swan is a Professor and Department Chair at the School of Nursing, College of Allied Health and Nursing, Minnesota State University, Mankato. She serves as the Pre-Licensure Director and holds a PhD in Nursing from South Dakota State University.

Dr. Swan specializes in rural nursing theory, family nursing, and simulation pedagogy. Her research explores how rural healthcare environments influence nurse-patient relationships, with a focus on anonymity and secondary traumatic stress. She integrates simulation-based learning into nursing education to enhance family-focused clinical skills.

Her publications since 2012 highlight trends in rural nursing challenges, simulation education, and family-centered care. Recent work includes concept analyses of "familiarity" in rural life and developing self-efficacy frameworks for rural maternity nurses.
