Marilyn M. Irwin

Marilyn M. Irwin, Ph.D., is an Emeritus Associate Professor in the Department of Library and Information Science at Indiana University Indianapolis' Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering. Her work focuses on accessibility in libraries, assistive technology, and inclusive education for people with disabilities. She received her Ph.D. from Indiana University in 1991.

Dr. Irwin has held leadership roles in professional organizations such as the Association for Specialized and Cooperative Library Agencies (ASCLA), serving as Vice President/President (2005–2008) and leading initiatives like the Hewlett Packard Library Technology Access Project (2002). She has been recognized with the Indiana University Trustee’s Teaching Award (2011) and the ASCLA Service Award (2005).

Her research explores disability representation in youth literature, web accessibility for students with disabilities, and inclusive technology integration. She has directed major grants totaling over $2 million, including the Career Transitions Executive Leadership Program (2007–2010) and Preparation of Leaders in School Library Media (2004–2007).

Key presentations include discussions on Section 508 compliance in libraries (2007), e-portfolios for learning outcomes (2011), and universal design principles (2005). Courses taught include Introduction to Research, emphasizing evidence-based practices in library and information science.
