Marikken Høiseth

Marikken Høiseth is an Associate Professor and Deputy Head of Research at the Department of Design, Faculty of Architecture and Design, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). She holds a PhD in Industrial Design from NTNU (2014), an MSc in Industrial Design Engineering from NTNU (2007), and a BSc from Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands (2004).

Her research centers on human-centered and participatory design, especially in healthcare contexts. Key interests include co-design with children and adolescents, service design, user experience, social semiotics, healthcare innovation, and meaning-making in interactions with products and services. She is a key contributor to the #Care4YoungTeeth<3 project (2021–2025), funded by the Norwegian Research Council and SINTEF, focusing on adolescent oral health promotion.

Her recent publications span topics such as digital health services for older adults, inclusive design, hope in health promotion, and serious games for children. The 2024 textbook Velferdsteknologi i praksis and the Co-Reflect Toolkit (2022) highlight her contributions to welfare technology and design education.

She has authored or co-authored numerous articles in journals such as Frontiers in Oral Health, Design for Health, BMC Oral Health, and International Journal of Design. Her work often involves interdisciplinary collaboration across health, education, and design fields.

Marikken Høiseth teaches courses including TPD4156 - Design 5 – Service Design and supervises master’s students in industrial design engineering. She is actively involved in public outreach, including webinars and research events like Forskningsdagene NTNU.
