Professor Marijka Batterham is a Professor and Director of the Statistical Consulting Centre at the University of Wollongong (UOW), within the Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences and School of Mathematics and Applied Statistics. She also coordinates the UOW Data & Decision Science Initiative (DDSI), part of the university's strategic plan to enhance data science capacity. Her dual professional qualifications include Accredited Statistician (Statistical Society of Australia) and Advanced Accredited Practising Dietitian (Dietitians Australia).
Her research focuses on biostatistics, nutrition, and clinical trials, particularly in dietary and surgical weight loss interventions, and the application of machine learning to predict attrition in health studies. She leads the Statistical Consulting Centre, providing data science support to researchers and students.
Recent grants include interdisciplinary projects on weight loss and multiple sclerosis (Multiple Sclerosis Research Australia, 2024–2026), COPD management (MRFF, 2023–2027), and physical activity interventions (MRFF, 2023–2027). Her work spans chronic disease, public health, and methodological advancements in clinical research.
Professor Batterham supervises numerous PhD students in areas like obesity management, dietary patterns, and palliative care analytics. She is actively involved in initiatives to improve healthcare delivery through data-driven approaches and has contributed to over 360 research outputs, emphasizing evidence-based practice and interdisciplinary collaboration.
