Marieta Valente is an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Minho, affiliated with the School of Economics, Management and Political Science. She is an integrated researcher at the Centre for Research in Economics and Management (NIPE) and holds a PhD in Economics from the University of London. Her academic work bridges theoretical frameworks with practical applications across multiple economic domains.
Her primary research interests include Experimental and Behavioural Economics, with specific focus on Environmental Economics, Energy Economics, Health Economics, and Applied Microeconomics. She has developed significant expertise in using experimental methods to investigate economic behavior, particularly regarding environmental decision-making, resource management, and consumer choices. Her research demonstrates a consistent pattern of interdisciplinary work that connects economic theory with real-world environmental and social challenges.
Her publication record shows strong engagement with environmental economics topics, particularly forest fire prevention, renewable energy acceptance, and environmental valuation methods. She has also made contributions to behavioral economics through studies on ethical perceptions, academic hazing, and health service utilization.
