Dr. Mariela E. Srednik serves as an Assistant Professor and Veterinary Bacteriologist in the Department of Veterinary Sciences at the University of Wyoming, contributing to the institution's R1 research status through active bacteriological diagnostics and pathogen research.
Her academic credentials include:
- D.V.M. in Public Health (2008)
- M.S. in Biotechnology (2015)
- Ph.D. in Veterinary Sciences (2017)
All earned at Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina, followed by postdoctoral training at University of Montreal (2018-2019), USDA APHIS National Veterinary Services Laboratories (2020-2022), and Iowa State University (2022-2024).
Her research laboratory specializes in veterinary bacteriology with emphasis on bacterial pathogenesis, wildlife/domestic animal pathogen identification, whole genome sequencing, antimicrobial resistance mechanisms, and infectious disease prevention strategies.
Dr. Srednik actively recruits Master's students (Fall 2025 intake) and offers undergraduate research opportunities in bacteriological diagnostics, with planned instruction in "Diagnostic Bacteriology" beginning Spring 2026.
