Mariela Acuña Mora is a Lecturer at the University of Borås, Faculty of Health, Work and Welfare, Department of Health Sciences, where she has taught in nursing, specialist, and doctoral education since 2020. She holds a PhD in Health Sciences from the University of Gothenburg and KU Leuven, with her thesis focusing on patient empowerment during the transition to adulthood in youth with chronic conditions.
- Research Interests: Person-centered care, patient empowerment, healthcare transitions, long-term conditions, adolescent health, instrument development, and quantitative research methods.
Her work includes coordinating the Digi-STEPSTONES project to support young people with long-term conditions and leading a study on health outcomes in young adults with congenital heart defects. She serves as Social Media Editor for the European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing, Co-Chair of the ACNAP Communications Committee, and an Editorial Board Member of Health Care Transitions. She actively disseminates research via social media and co-supervises doctoral students at the University of Borås.
