Marie-Pier Boucher is an Assistant Professor of Media Studies at the Institute of Communication, Culture, Information, and Technology (University of Toronto Mississauga) with a graduate appointment in the Faculty of Information. Her research explores the intersection of architecture, media theory, and extreme environments, focusing on how habitat design can sustain life in space and on Earth. Previously, she was a Mellon Postdoctoral Research Fellow at MIT's Center for Art, Science and Technology.
Education:
- PhD in Art, Art History and Visual Studies from Duke University
Research interests include space feminism, planetary habitation, biotechnological ethics, and the socio-technical futures of extraterrestrial colonization. Current projects examine:
- "Interplanetary Habitation: The Earth, the Moon, Mars and the City"
- Design principles for microgravity environments
- Symbiotic relationships between architecture and biological systems
Her articles analyze topics like gravitational perception, feminist critiques of space exploration, and artistic practices reimagining human-machine interfaces. Supervising graduate student Suarjan Prasai.
