Dr. Marie Patterson serves as the founding Director of Fieldwork Education and Clinical Associate Professor in the Occupational Therapy Doctoral Program at Yeshiva University's Katz School of Science and Health. Her expertise spans clinical supervision, fieldwork program development, and advocacy for occupational therapy. She holds certifications in AOTA Fieldwork Education and has over a decade of experience in diverse clinical settings including hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and international nonprofit organizations.
- Education: Doctorate in Occupational Therapy (Texas Woman’s University), Master of Occupational Therapy (Temple University), Bachelor of Education with Special Education certification and History minor.
Her research interests focus on enhancing clinical education practices, advocating for occupational therapy policy, and improving accessibility in global healthcare. She has collaborated with international organizations such as the Foundation for African Medicine & Education and Den Dries Center for Disabled Persons to promote inclusive healthcare solutions. Dr. Patterson also actively lobbies for occupational therapy at the federal level, engaging with U.S. Congress members to advance professional advocacy.
In her role, she oversees fieldwork placements across adult, pediatric, and geriatric populations and teaches courses such as OTH5101 (Intro to Doctoral Fieldwork I) and OTH5402 (Doctoral Fieldwork II). Her work integrates practical clinical experience with theoretical occupational therapy frameworks.
