Marie Miranda

Dr. Marie Miranda is an Adjunct Professor in the Division of Environmental Sciences and Policy at Duke University's Nicholas School of the Environment. She serves as Director of the Children’s Environmental Health Initiative (CEHI) and is a faculty member in Duke’s Integrated Toxicology Program. Her research integrates environmental health sciences with policy development, focusing on children's vulnerabilities to environmental hazards.

Current research projects include:

• CDC-funded GIS modeling of household-level lead exposure risks across 27 North Carolina counties
• NIEHS-funded national replication of lead exposure risk models
• HUD-funded evaluation of mold contamination pathways in residential crawl spaces
• Robert Wood Johnson Foundation project on GIS applications for healthcare delivery
• Superfund Center outreach on spatial analysis of child exposure to contaminants
• Genomics curriculum development exploring gene-environment interactions

She holds leadership roles in multiple state committees including the Durham County Lead Intervention Team and North Carolina Lead Elimination Action Plan Strategic Planning Group. Her interdisciplinary work combines geospatial technology, molecular biology, epidemiology, and social science to analyze environmental impacts on child development.
