Marie-Lise Gougeon is a Professor and Principal Investigator (PI) at the Institut Pasteur, leading research in Antiviral Immunity, Biotherapy, and Vaccines. Her work focuses on understanding the interplay between innate and adaptive immunity in viral infections such as HIV and HPV. She explores mechanisms of viral persistence, immune evasion, and vaccine development, with a particular interest in dendritic cells, NK cells, and cytokine signaling (e.g., HMGB1, IFN-α).
Key contributions include discovering HMGB1's role in HIV dissemination, identifying HPV-specific T-cell expansions in lichen planus, and developing novel antiretroviral nanoparticle therapies. She has led projects funded by ANRS, ANR, and the Institut Pasteur, with patents filed on vaccine strategies and immune modulation.
Her research also addresses public health challenges like pandemic influenza, shigellosis, and vaccine safety (e.g., thimerosal effects). Collaborative efforts include the Inception Program for integrative biology and international studies on antibiotic resistance (e.g., SARA project).
