Dr. Marie Lavorel is an independent researcher, exhibition curator, and lecturer affiliated with Université du Québec à Montréal and Université d'Avignon et des pays de Vaucluse. She holds dual doctorates in museology, mediation, heritage and information & communication sciences.

Her research focuses on the heritage of sensitive memories, exploring how traumatic histories become institutionalized through narrative frameworks. She also investigates contemporary art practices and their relationship to memory preservation, combining museological theory with critical heritage analysis.
As an independent curator, she develops exhibition projects that bridge academic research with artistic practice. Her work intersects with themes of cultural identity, memory politics, and the evolving role of heritage professionals in mediating contested histories.
Currently based in Montreal, she actively participates in academic events like the ACHS 2016 conference What does heritage change?, where she presented on "The heritage writing of deportation" and attended sessions exploring heritage's role in negotiating social tensions.
