Marie Laperrière is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and Criminology at the Faculty of Arts, University of Manitoba. She holds a PhD in Sociology from Northwestern University and MSc/BSc degrees in Political Science and International Studies from Université de Montréal.

Her research focuses on domestic violence treatment programs, politics of punishment, gender-based violence, and feminist theory. She examines intersections of welfare state transformations, gendered vulnerability conceptions, and punitive social control mechanisms.
Recent publications analyze gendered social policy developments in the US (2019), opportunity beliefs under rising inequality (2017), and intersectionality in Québécois women's movements (2016). Her methodological expertise includes qualitative analysis and comparative policy studies.
She teaches courses in Criminology (SOC 2510), Gender-Based Violence (SOC 3740), and Women, Crime and Social Justice (SOC 3790).
