Dr. Marie Keatley is a Lecturer in the School of Science at RMIT University. Her research focuses on plant phenology, biometeorology, and environmental history, with an emphasis on understanding how climate influences the timing of plant life cycles (budding, flowering, fruiting). She also develops statistical methods for analyzing phenological data and collaborates on citizen science initiatives like ClimateWatch. Before joining RMIT in 2023, she worked for Parks Victoria for nearly 20 years, gaining extensive industry experience. She currently serves on the National Parks Advisory Council and Reference Areas Advisory Committee, and holds leadership roles in the International Society of Biometeorology, including Chair of its Phenology Commission.
Her research interests intersect ecology, climate change, and citizen science, with a particular focus on southern hemisphere plant responses to climate. She has contributed to international studies on phenology and climate impacts, and her work often involves interdisciplinary collaborations. Dr. Keatley is open to supervising Masters and PhD students in research-based degrees, such as 'Modelling complex time series using machine learning and time series probabilistic models.'
She is actively involved in global environmental initiatives, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals related to Life on Land, Climate Action, and Partnerships for the Goals. Her professional memberships include the International Journal of Biometeorology editorial board and roles in conservation organizations.
