Dr. Marie Heath is the Chair of the Education Specialties Department and an Associate Professor of Learning Design & Technology at Loyola University Maryland. She previously taught high school social studies in Baltimore County Public Schools, a career that shaped her research focus on education technology, civic engagement, and social justice. Her work critiques how schools and technologies encode oppression while advocating for equitable technological futures.
Dr. Heath co-edits the CITE Social Studies journal and co-founded the Civics of Technology project. She served as past chair of the Social Studies and Critical Theory in Teaching and Technology (CTTT) SIGs for SITE. As a Faculty Associate at the Center for Equity, Leadership, and Social Justice in Education, she bridges academia and activism. Her research employs critical theory and media studies to interrogate technologies’ societal impacts, particularly in education.
