Marie Hardin is the Dean of the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications and a Professor of Journalism at Pennsylvania State University. Her research focuses on sports media, gender representation in sports, disability discourse, and athlete mental health. She has held leadership roles in advancing academic communication and sport studies, including editorial contributions to Communication and Sport. In 2025, she was awarded the Scripps Howard Administrator of the Year for her contributions to higher education administration.
Her research explores intersections between media, sports, and societal issues such as gender equity and disability inclusion. Recent work examines the evolving role of social media platforms in sports journalism, the impact of gambling on sports communication, and the representation of marginalized groups in athletic narratives.
