Marie-Elodie Perga

Marie-Elodie Perga is a Full Professor at the Institute of Earth Surface Dynamics (IDYST) at the University of Lausanne (UNIL), part of the Faculty of Geosciences and Environment. She was promoted to full professor in February 2023, following roles as an associate professor and head of the LAKES group since 2017. Her research focuses on environmental changes in lake ecosystems, particularly in Alpine lakes, Lake Geneva, and peri-Alpine regions. She employs interdisciplinary methods including paleoecological reconstructions, field monitoring, and numerical modeling to study biogeochemical cycles and ecological impacts of climate change.

Her work addresses greenhouse gas emissions, dissolved oxygen dynamics, and the interplay between human activities and aquatic ecosystems. She contributes to international initiatives like EU-COST, IGBP-PAGES, and the Lexplore platform (a high-tech lake observatory on Lake Geneva involving EPFL, EAWAG, INRAE, UNIL, and UNIGE). She also advocates for sustainability in research processes, emphasizing structural changes to enhance environmental and academic practices.
