Marie-Claude Larouche is a Full Professor in the Department of Education Sciences at the University of Quebec in Trois-Rivières (UQTR), where she teaches humanities in primary schools and special education, including practical training components. She co-directs the Research Laboratory on Cultural Audiences with Hervé Guay and maintains active involvement in university governance and policy development.
Her research focuses on the didactics of humanities, the culture-education link, and non-formal education, particularly on mediation practices initiated by cultural institutions integrating digital technology. She has pioneered innovative approaches to heritage education through projects like the "Cultural Mediators at UQTR" initiative and the development of the "eCompagnon culturel" mobile application. Her work frequently examines how digital technologies can enhance museum visits and cultural experiences for educational purposes.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals a consistent focus on the intersection of cultural heritage, digital technologies, and educational practices, with particular attention to primary education contexts. Her research demonstrates strong interdisciplinary connections between education, museology, cultural studies, and digital humanities, with practical applications in teacher training and curriculum development.
Through her leadership in the Research Laboratory on Cultural Audiences, Professor Larouche has fostered significant collaborations between UQTR and cultural institutions including the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec, and Télé-Québec. Her work with the Quebec Digital Cultural Plan (measure 73) has directly impacted educational resources for primary and secondary levels across multiple disciplinary fields.
Professor Larouche actively contributes to educational policy discussions, as evidenced by her recent opinion pieces in Le Devoir and Le Droit regarding revisions to social studies programs in Quebec primary schools. She has also played a key role in developing UQTR's first Arts and Cultural Citizenship Policy (2021) and co-organized the 6th international congress of the International Association for the Teaching of History and Social Sciences in 2022.
