Dr. Maridee Shogren is a full-time Clinical Professor at the University of North Dakota’s College of Nursing and Professional Disciplines (CNPD) and serves as Dean. A Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) and Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC), she specializes in women’s health, obstetrics, and gynecology. Her contact email is maridee.shogren@UND.edu.

Research Interests
Dr. Shogren’s work focuses on advancing women’s health through interdisciplinary collaboration. Her key research areas include obstetrics and gynecology, breastfeeding support, interprofessional education, substance use disorders in women, perinatal mental health, and rural healthcare systems. She integrates Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) into her clinical and educational initiatives.
Scientific Awards and Recognitions
Grant Involvement and Clinical Leadership
Dr. Shogren has led and participated in multiple federally funded grants. She spent three years on the SAMHSA-funded interprofessional SBIRT training grant and now contributes to the Mountain Plains Addiction Technology Transfer Center and Mountain Plains Mental Health Technology Transfer Center. As Principal Investigator for the Foundation for Opioid Response Efforts grant, Don’t Quit the Quit, she expands access to opioid use disorder treatment for pregnant and postpartum women. Her clinical practice spans rural health clinics, family planning, and federally qualified health centers, addressing topics like contraceptive options, sexually transmitted infections, and postpartum care.
Labs and Teams
Dr. Shogren collaborates with the Frontier Regional FASD Training Center and grant teams at UND, including the Mountain Plains Addiction Technology Transfer Center and Mountain Plains Mental Health Technology Transfer Center. She has previously chaired the Graduate Nursing Department and directed the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program.
