Maribeth Latvis is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Natural Resource Management at South Dakota State University (SDSU) and an Associate Graduate Faculty member. She directs the Taylor Herbarium and teaches courses including Grasses and Grasslike Plants, Range Plant Identification, and Plant Systematics. Her research focuses on plant biodiversity through phylogenetic analysis, molecular systematics, and community assembly, with emphasis on parasitic angiosperms (Orobanchaceae) and tallgrass prairie ecosystems. She is relocating her lab to the University of Arkansas's Department of Biological Sciences in Fall 2023.
- Education: Ph.D. in Biology (University of Florida, 2013), B.S. in Anthropology-Zoology (University of Michigan, 2005)
- Professional Experience: Postdoctoral researcher at University of Idaho (2014–2017), Lecturer at University of Idaho, and Laboratory Manager at Harvard University (2005–2007)
Her research integrates fieldwork, genomics, and computational tools to explore plant evolution and conservation. Key areas include the Orobanchaceae family, invasion biology, and herbarium data utilization. She actively promotes diversity and inclusion in academia.
