Marianne McCallum is an Academic Fellow in General Practice and Honorary Clinical Fellow at the School of Health & Wellbeing, University of Glasgow. Her work focuses on reducing health inequalities, particularly in multimorbidity management within socioeconomically deprived populations. She holds a Chief Scientist Office Clinical Academic Fellowship supporting her PhD research (MOSAIC study) investigating individual and community factors affecting self-management of multimorbidity.
Dr. McCallum graduated from the University of Edinburgh (MBChB, 2005) with a BMedSci in Epidemiology (2003). She completed GP training in North West Glasgow and has maintained clinical practice in deprived communities, including roles at the Glasgow Homeless Service. She serves on the Deep End Scotland steering group, representing GPs in Scotland's most deprived areas.
Her research interests include participatory action research, burden of treatment theory, and primary care innovation. Over 12 peer-reviewed publications demonstrate her expertise in health inequities, multimorbidity, and qualitative methodologies. Her work bridges clinical practice and academic research to address systemic healthcare challenges in underserved populations.
Key achievements include an NHS Education for Scotland Health Inequalities Fellowship (2016/17), completion of an MSc in Primary Care (Distinction), and leadership in quality improvement initiatives for marginalized populations. Her research emphasizes community engagement and patient-centered solutions to complex health challenges.
