Marianne H. Begemann is an Associate Professor of Chemistry and Dean of Strategic Planning and Academic Resources at Vassar College. She has been affiliated with Vassar since 1985, serving as Department Chair from 1995 to 1999. Her research focuses on laser spectroscopy of transient species and geochemical transport of metals, particularly aluminum. She holds an AB from Vassar College (Chemistry) and a PhD in Physical Chemistry from UC Berkeley (1984).
Education:
- PhD in Physical Chemistry, University of California, Berkeley (1984)
- AB in Chemistry, Vassar College
Research Interests: Her work integrates physical chemistry methodologies with environmental applications, including:
- Laser spectroscopic analysis of short-lived chemical species
- Environmental geochemistry of metal migration, with emphasis on aluminum's ecological impact
Grants & Initiatives: Received ECMC Foundation funding for the Exploring Transfer Together program, aimed at enhancing community college student transitions to four-year institutions. This initiative analyzes program efficacy and promotes scalable transfer pathways.
Advising & Leadership: As Dean of Strategic Planning, she oversees academic resource strategies. No formal advisee list is provided in available texts.
Labs/Teams: Active in Vassar's Chemistry Department research groups, though specific lab affiliations are not detailed here.
