Prof. Marianne Geleijnse is a tenured Professor in Nutrition and Cardiovascular Disease at Wageningen University's Division of Human Nutrition and Health. Her research focuses on sustainable nutrition, prevention/treatment of cardiometabolic diseases (e.g., coronary heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, chronic kidney disease), and food policy. She chairs the Nutrition and Healthcare Alliance (NHA) and serves as Vice Chair of the Netherlands Health Council, overseeing national dietary guidelines. With over 350 peer-reviewed publications, her work bridges epidemiology, public health, and clinical nutrition.
Educated at Leiden University (biomedical sciences) and Erasmus University (epidemiology PhD, 1996), her expertise spans dietary guidelines, cardiovascular risk factors, and nutrition sustainability. Key roles include leadership in projects like the Alpha Omega Cohort, SWEET, and SUSFANS (EU-funded food sustainability initiatives). She teaches courses on nutrition-cardiometabolic disease links and epidemiological methods, including MOOCs and online masters programs.
Her scientific awards include the 2025 American Heart Association Paul Dudley White International Scholar Award. She advises multiple organizations (e.g., Gezondheidsraad, Jaap Schouten Foundation) and supervises research on topics like beverage quality indices, Mediterranean diet efficacy, and kidney health. Her work emphasizes socially equitable food policies and interdisciplinary collaboration to address global health challenges.
