Dr. Mariana Nold is a Research Associate at the Department of Methods of Empirical Social Research, Institute of Sociology, Friedrich Schiller University Jena, where she has been employed since April 2017. She holds a doctorate from the University of Bamberg (2010-2014) and a diploma in Statistics from LMU Munich (2002-2008). Previously, she worked at the University Hospital Jena (2014-2017) and the University of Bamberg (2008-2010).
Her research encompasses:
- Statistical modeling with emphasis on variable selection and functional forms
- Bayesian methods including posterior predictive checking
- Analysis and communication of model uncertainty
- Replication/reproduction studies to promote research transparency
Dr. Nold's publications demonstrate interdisciplinary work spanning methodological statistics (Bayesian stacking, prediction models) and applied medical research (radiology, surgery). Recent articles focus on predictive modeling in social sciences and simulation studies.
She teaches extensively in statistics, including:
- Lectures: Descriptive Statistics, Inductive Statistics
- Exercises: Quantitative Methods, Regression with R
- Seminars: Bayesian statistics, regression diagnostics
