Mariana França Gouveia is a Full Professor at NOVA School of Law, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, and currently serves as President of the Scientific Council. Her academic and professional career spans teaching, research, and legal practice, with a focus on Civil Procedural Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution.
- Education: Degree and PhD in Law from the University of Lisbon (1997) and NOVA School of Law (2003), respectively.
- Management: Served as Dean of NOVA School of Law from 2018 to 2022.
Her research areas include Civil Procedural Law, Alternative Dispute Resolution (Arbitration, Mediation), Economic Justice, and European Civil Procedure. She created and directs the NOVA Dispute Resolution Forum, a research center for Civil Procedure and ADR.
Recent publications focus on international arbitration frameworks, liability of arbitral institutions, and procedural measures in arbitration. She has authored influential books such as Curso de Resolução Alternativa de Litígios (multiple editions) and Arbitration in Portuguese-Speaking Jurisdictions.
Professionally, she is a partner at VdA Lawyers, specializing in Litigation and Arbitration, where she represents clients in complex domestic and international cases. She also supervises Master’s students in arbitration-related courses.
